“As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord”
Joshua’s last recorded words in a public forum are set in Joshua 24:15. A much quoted statement , it lies in the middle of a message that clearly excludes the worship of other gods for those professing dedications to Jehovah.Obviously it was the norm for them to worship multiple gods while still sacrificing to the LORD. Jesus narrows the word “gods” down to “mammon” in Matthew 6:24, and refers to the debasing influences that control our lives when our goals become material wealth and sensual pleasures. At best ,the rewards mammon offers are fleeting and temporary and usually leave a hollow craving within, if not guilt and shame as well. Jesus offers true “fullness of joy” and “pleasures forevermore”. Psalm 16:11.

“When thou buildest a new house, thou shalt make a battlement to the roof ..” Duet. 22:8
Amid the challenges of living for Christ is that of protecting our own minds and that of our children from the temptations that are so available. In a society bent on moral corruption , we need to be always vigilant against the dangers that will cause ruin. A guardrail around the
high deck to keep the children from falling when they do not realize the danger,is what this verse is about. As adults, we see the dangers of our entertainment and internet cultures, as well as corrupt friends. What am I doing to protect myself and my family? If I do nothing, it is my fault if one falls.

Take ye the sum of all the congregation… Numbers 1:2
We sing the song..”When you count up those who love the Lord, count me..” In this passage it was for knowing the number of the men who could go to war. It was a call to be counted for consecration and service. Am I available.. or do I have too many plans of my own? This is a daily sacrifice. Romans 12:1,2. may the Lord bless us this day as we seek to serve. Pastor W Jones
