Blasphemy Against the Holy Spirit
This sin is obviously the only mortal( in Catholic terminology) sin there is. It is spoken of in both Matthew 12:31.32 and is the only sin that can damn the human soul. Jesus
obviously is speaking of it in John 3: 19. Evidence for it seems to me to point to the despising or mocking in your life that which the Holy Spirit has made sacred. Esau
committed it when he sold his birthright. Cf. Genesis 25:34 with Hebrews 12:16,17. Our pathway to our day of repentance and salvation in Jesus involves many decisions along
the road that involve a sensitivity to what is sacred and true. Perhaps lying and deceit are the root causes of our unbelief.
Romans 1:18 says the ungodly .. “hold the truth ( ie supress it) in unrighteousness”. Those who are saved in Christ cannot commit this sin. Romans 8:38, 39 .. more later
Put on the whole armour of God
II Corinthians 2:11 tells us that we are not ignorant of Satan’s devices that he uses to get us to fall. We all have tendencies to fall for different temptations. No matter what the temptation,it is easy to see after because , when we fall for it, we gain a sense of failure and/or guilt.
Ephesian6 :1 says that God has a way to arm us against falling for that sin. In fact, He wants us to not only stand, but help others to see the possibility of victory as well.
If you have risen above a vice in your life by God’s grace, and see someone else struggling,it is your duty as a Christian to help… in the spirit of meekness…
“lest thou also be tempted”… again! Galatians 6:1 May God bless your day
Blessed are the persecuted… hungry…reviled… uh…?
In case you ever read the Beatitudes in Matthew 5 , you might have wondered whether you really want that type of “blessing” !! ” Poor in spirit (vs.3), who mourn (vs. 4) who hunger and thirst after righteousness (vs. 6) persecuted, reviled (vs. 10,11) . To really understand it, you have to realize who He is addressing and in what context! Jesus is not saying that you are blessed only if you experience these, but that when these situations come along in the life of a sincere believer ( and they will) , not to interpret it that God has forsaken or left you! No, much the opposite, He is preparing you wth a new focus, better understanding and a new stamina ( called “hardness “in I Timothy 2:3) for faithful service. To interpret hardship and trial as God’s judgement is a most damaging and is a cause of much discouragement. May God help us to be able to discern between His chastening for sin and character building in us. The disciples were to face difficulties and must not give up.
